Our house

This is our house. It is a Victorian shop converted into a town house. It has four bedrooms. The garage is my workshop. I'll post some "Nosey" photos of inside the house later. It is just over a hundred years old. It was renovated about 6 years ago, so we get the benefit of unusually large rooms for an English house and nice new plaster on the walls.

This is the Pub that is just up the road from us. The photo was taken from across the street from our house. It is called The Royal Oak, and is what we would call in England, "Our local!" Although I have only been in there twice. Since the smoking ban in public buildings it is a lot nicer to go into pubs.

This is a view up the road from outside our front door. The reason I wanted to show this is because you can see the church we go to (You will probably have to double click on it to bigulate it!) The church is the in middle of the picture and is quite small and tucked into a row of terraced houses. It has a shop front type sign on it. The big building a couple of doors up that you can see is a garage where I get my car fixed. So you can see it is quite a packed in little community! The best bit is we don't have to get into our car to get to church!

It's so British!

I should say more than "It's so British!" That could mean anything.

What is so different to me is how old and well preserved everything is. And solid looking. Must be all the brick and stone.

What is a shame is the phots I didn't send! The 70s houses squashed into all this history!

There has been a lot said about the architects of the 60s and 70s and hopefully most of them have been shot! but let's pray God's mercy on them!

We went through a phase called "modernism" or "post modernism" and the idea was that form was about function. That meant it didn't matter what the thing looked like as long as it performed the function. Since then there has been such a backlash that now we get all kinds of stuff going up. ultra modern to retro-period! It is very confusing. Just down the road the other way is a really old house. So old, it is practically in the road. I'll have to try and get a phot of that for you!
